Boost Malawi

Welcome to the Boost Malawi website!

Boost Malawi is a charitable organisation founded by volunteers who have worked in Malawi.

It is a vehicle for getting funds to Malawi, and for new ideas to help the country.

The aim is to give a Boost in terms of funding and ideas which will help Malawians help themselves, rather than just giving them a handout.

Boost Malawi manages direct bookings for volunteer placements with the Malawi Volunteer Organisation.
They are our partners in Malawi and are assisting with many of our projects. They are a very reliable organisation to volunteer with.
Consider making a life-changing decision and volunteer in Malawi this year!

End of our first year approaching!
Well, the end of the year is fast approaching. Boost Malawi's first year since incorporation as a non-profit company.

It's fair to say, we've achieved some great things this year, but not as much as I'd hoped.

I think our priorities have changed. I am preparing an end of year report, as well as plans for how to take Boost Malawi forward in 2012. Other website updates are coming very soon (I'm updating MVO's website as a priority! >> posted by Ben on 19/12/11

Boost Malawi members in action!
Boost Malawi's members are located throughout the UK, and are beginning some exciting fundraising projects in their local areas.
Member Alice McCarthy has been busy organising collection tins which should raise some funds over the coming months.
We are grateful to the following for allowing us to have collection tins in their shops:
Also member Greg Flowerdew recently raised GBP 76 from wristband sales in his school in Scotland and is selling more fast! He also plans to hold a non-uniform day with proceeds going to Boost Malawi.

All of our members are passionate about this worthy cause, so please consider making a donation today!

Lots of progress so far in 2011!
Many good things are happening:
  • We have paid for another term to keep 15 amazing students in secondary school. In return they have been assisting at the primary school in their holidays
  • We have opened our own bank account, making it easier to donate
  • We have sent off our application to HMRC for charity status (which required a bank account). Unfortunately this may take 4-8 weeks for them to process.
  • Wristband sales (see left) are going well! Get hold of one today and show your support!

In regards to the charity application, HMRC have a large backlog and it may take several more weeks until we hear back. You can make a donation and we can still claim Gift Aid retrospectively provided our application with HMRC is successful. >> posted by Ben on 22/01/11

Now a registered company!
We have now been approved by Companies House and are now an officially registered not for profit company in the UK. This is great news as it is the first step in being a fully functioning charity. Soon we will be able to make it easy to donate to us, and will be applying for Gift Aid tax relief. Watch this space! >> posted by Ben on 18/12/10
